The reds of the commune of Castelnuovo Berardegna are amongst the darkest and most vigorous of the whole zone of Chianti Classico. At the ancient and intriguing Castell‘in Villa, Principessa Coralia Pignatelli continues many generations of making brilliant and unusually elegant reds which will be a revelation here.
Although deeper and darker than most Chianti, this has a thrilling freshness and elegance to it. The Sangiovese fruit, of purple plums, cherry and flowers opens out reasonably soon. The palate is long, and unusually well textured for Chianti. This is savoury,‘up’ and exquisite.
